Smart energy for a cleaner future 

At REC, everything we do is centered on a single mission: making clean, renewable solar energy affordable and accessible around the world. We focus on solar energy because it is an infinite, climate-friendly and sustainable source of energy.

To achieve our goals, we focus on innovations and operational efficiency. This means reducing both the cost and environmental impact of generating electricity from solar energy. REC has a light carbon footprint due to the fact that we use hydropower for all our silicon production, and parts of the wafer operations. The price of energy generating solar systems is steadily decreasing, thus making solar energy more affordable for more people. 

One year payback time

The energy payback time is the amount of time an energy system must operate to generate the same amount of energy that was required to manufacture the system. 

Minimizing the initial energy investment in turn maximizes the contribution the energy systems make.  

Energy payback time on REC modules 

Life cycle analyses carried out by Utrecht University and the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands showed that the energy payback time for REC solar systems with our crystalline silicon-based solar modules was lower than any others they had examined. With the next-generation silicon plants – utilizing the REC proprietary Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR) process – up and running in USA, the energy payback time for solar systems with REC modules has dropped to only one year.
