Wafer production

REC is among the world’s largest manufacturer of wafers for solar applications. REC produces wafers at two facilities in Norway and in Singapore as part of the integrated solar production facility at Tuas, Singapore.

REC Wafer is the operating division for the mono- and multicrystalline wafers and ingots production in Norway, with plants at Herøya and in Glomfjord.
REC Solar is the operating division for the wafer production in Singapore, which supplies internal demand for cell and module production in Singapore.

REC Wafer operates wafer processing factories in Glomfjord and Herøya, Norway which produced mono- and multicrystalline wafers and ingots with an implied effect of 1,210 MW in 2010. Targeted production for 2011 is 1,100 MW.

REC's wafer capacities including Singapore totals approximately 1.5 GW.

REC Wafer has been at the forefront of the industry since the company was formed as a specialized producer of multicrystalline wafers for the PV industry under the name ScanWafer AS in 1994.

By the end of 2010, approximately 1,100 people were employed in REC's Norwegian wafer production, and about 400 employees work in the Singapore wafer operation.
